Hidden Armenian Treasures - Tour

Duration: 5 day(s) - Location: Province of Van
Most tours organised in and around Van visit the two or three highlights like Van Castle, the ruin church on Akdamar island and eventually the Hoshap Castle. As these are really  remnants of high cultural historical value we won't refrain from visiting them. As we have travelled the province extensively we are lucky to know than Van has so much more to offer to the visitor. Incredible scenery along Lake Van and in the mountains south of it. Furthermore many of the villages of Van are situated in small paradises of lush green gardens, laying like small islands on steep mountain slopes. The population is extremely hospitable, which offers the visitor to the area lots of insight into the daily life of people in remote mountaineous areas. And hidden behind houses or in the bushes one can find, more often than not, the ruins of a church of Armenian origin.

To visit them all would take the traveller more than one month. Our tour is planned to show  the most beautiful churches in combination with the loveliest natural setting together with reasonable reachability. In this tour we will walk about 10 kilometers a day mostly over existing dust roads and age old walking paths. We'll visit many villages, where we'll take our time making contact with the local people, drinking tea and visiting the local church (ruins). For lunches we'll picnic on shady places in the fields. On some days we'll have the opportunity to swim in Lake Van, a strongly soda containing lake at an altitude of 1700 meters.
