Marmaris Grand Bazaar
"A visit to the Bazaar is a must. It is a large rabbit warren of shops of all descriptions. You can buy anything your heart desires in the Bazaar, custom made shoes, clothes and jewellery. The tailors are very good and will make garments in a couple of days. Treat yourself to a custom piece of jewellery, it does not take long, and the craftsmanship is excellent. Prices are much cheaper than other countries and the workmanship is terrific..."

The Datca Weekly Market
An attractive open market on the streets of Datca every Saturday gives the traveller an excellent view of rural live on the Western Peninsula as well as an overview of local agricultural products. Famous are the almonds, olives, olive oil, honey, thyme and laurel, products which still belong to the best of the country.
Most of agricultural output still is organic and that's one of the reasons food in this part of Turkey is so tasty. Every week a growing number of Greeks from nearby Simi Island visit this market because of the low prices compared to their european economical standards.

Marmaris - Datca - Notes
Note:
Of above mentioned Banks the Yapi & Kredi Bank in Marmaris is the best in handling travellers demands. In Datca the best bank for travellers is Türkiye Is Bankasi. The Postoffice is the best place in Datca to exchange your Traveller Cheques.
All banks have ATM 7/24.
Through internet I could not find more information than the above written.
In Datca you don't need the address numbers. Most probably you will arrive via the Atatürk Caddesi. The first bank you pass is the Türkiye Is Bankasi on your left. From here to the most faraway Halkbank is about 5 - 10 minutes walk.
As soon as I have the address numbers and telephone numbers I will sent it to you.

BOOK SHOPS
Balikasiran Kitabevi/Fish-propeling Bookhouse
Ther are some shops in Datca where books are sold. But the best and broadest collection you'll find at Balikasiran.
(There is a myth, a historical fact and a dream about the place Balikasiran [Baluuh-k Ashuuh-run]. The myth is that fish which was hunted after by fishermen, fled to Balikasiran, where the Peninsula is narrowest (only 1,3m). From there they jump over the hills to the other side of the Penninsula. Fishermen couldn't stop their hunt and also propeller over the narrowest part of land in pursue of the fish.
The historical fact is, that local people wanted to dig a canal at Balikasiran to stop the Persian army from entering their territory (5th century B.C.)
The dream is that I see a smooth earthquake breaking the western part of the Marmaris Peninsula from the Turkish mainland. I wonder what will happen then ....
